Shooter Kao Ya-ju (???) on Thursday won Taiwan's first silver medal at the 24th Summer Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, following two bronze medals won by the national team earlier in the week.
Kao took silver with 232 points in the Women's 10m Air Pistol event, 4.3 points behind Ukrainian shooter Inna Afonchenko's 236.3.
According to Kao, all she could think of during the finals was to score as highly as possible.
Suddenly she was one of only three shooters left, Kao said, and that made her more nervous.
However, once Kao realized she would win a medal, she was able to stop thinking about points and focus more on the competition, eventually winning the silver medal.
The Taiwan shooter will next participate in the Women's 25m Pistol event, where she is looking to do better in her favorite discipline.
Kao won a silver and bronze medal at the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei and a bronze medal at the 2013 Summer Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Taiwan has also won two bronze medals at the Caxias do Sul Deaflympics, which is being held from May 1-15, as of Friday.
The first bronze was won on May 3 by the men's Karate team in the kata team event, and the second by the mixed gender badminton team on May 5 after defeating Korea 3:2.
