Taiwanese Airlines to Increase Fuel Surcharges on International Flights

Taipei:Fuel surcharges for international flights operated by Taiwanese carriers are set to rise from October 7 due to the recent increase in international aviation fuel prices, as announced by the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA).

According to Focus Taiwan, the surcharge for short-haul routes will be increased to $37.5 from $32.5, while the surcharge for long-haul routes will go up to $97.5 from $84.5. The CAA attributed these adjustments to a rise in international aviation fuel prices, which have climbed to $177.89 per barrel from $156.79, based on data from state-owned CPC Corp., Taiwan.

The CAA has instructed airlines to ensure that passengers receive adequate information about the surcharge adjustment, including the breakdown of fuel costs and their proportion of total flight expenses, to address any consumer concerns.

This marks the third consecutive month of increases in airline fuel surcharges, reflecting ongoing fluctuations in international fuel prices. Since July, the surcharge for short-haul flights has risen from $27.5 to $37.5, and the surcharge for long-haul flights has increased from $71.5 to $97.5.

Short-haul routes include flights between Taiwan and destinations in Asia, except for India and the Middle East. Long-haul routes cover destinations in Europe, the Americas, Oceania, Africa, Antarctica, India, and the Middle East, as defined by the CAA.
