Madrid:Three Taiwanese female artists participated in the "She Makes Noise" festival in Spain as part of a special program celebrating Taiwan. This event took place on Saturday and was part of the festival's schedule running from October 2-9.
According to Focus Taiwan, the "She Makes Noise x Taiwan" show featured Sabiwa, Scintii, and Sonia Calico, each bringing unique styles to their performances. Sonia Calico, an electronic music producer and DJ, previously won the Best Electronic Song award at the Golden Indie Music Awards in 2020. Scintii is also known as an electronic music producer, singer-songwriter, and DJ, while Sabiwa is an experimental audiovisual artist based in Berlin.
This year's festival focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of Taiwan's electronic music scene, featuring live performances, radio shows, and workshops. Chang Yu-hsuan, head of the cultural division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Madrid, stated that this is the first collaboration with the festival's founder, Natalia Piñuel Martín, to promote exchanges between Taiwanese and Spanish artists.
The event was held at Réplika Teatro in Madrid, where Sonia Calico expressed her goal to energize the audience, which responded with enthusiasm. Scintii highlighted the audience's engagement, and Sabiwa noted the Spanish crowd's lively participation compared to her experiences in Berlin.
The artists are set to perform next in Barcelona on October 9, with the festival aiming to introduce Spanish audiences to Asian electronic music culture and strengthen cultural ties between Taiwan and Spain.
