Taiwanese Woman Remains Trapped in Collapsed Hotel in Myanmar

Taipei: A Taiwanese woman remains trapped in a collapsed hotel in Mandalay, Myanmar, nearly 48 hours after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar. Her situation has drawn significant attention, as efforts to rescue her continue.

According to Focus Taiwan, the woman, who is the wife of a Taiwanese man surnamed Lin, was staying at the Great Wall Hotel Mandalay when the earthquake hit. The couple had arrived in Mandalay a few days earlier as tourists. Lin, who was near the hotel's main entrance at the time of the quake, managed to escape with only minor injuries.

However, his wife was not as fortunate. She, along with several hotel staff members, became trapped on the ground floor of the hotel when it partially collapsed. Lin has been anxiously waiting outside the hotel, communicating with his wife through a trapped staffer's walkie-talkie. He noted that his wife's voice sounded weak, which is concerning given her condition of high blood pressure.

Efforts to rescue those trapped have been ongoing since late Saturday, with cranes and rescuers working tirelessly. While some individuals have been freed, there is frustration among locals in Mandalay regarding the slow progress, attributed to limited manpower.
