Taiwan’s Immigration Agency Seeks New Logo for Immigrant Fund

Taipei:Taiwan's National Immigration Agency (NIA) has called on the public to submit designs for a new logo for the New Immigrant Development Fund, with the deadline set for Thursday. The competition offers prizes valued at a total of NT$300,000 (approximately US$9,237).

According to Focus Taiwan, the contest began on September 22 and will close at 1159 p.m. on Thursday. It seeks to establish a visual identity that enhances the visibility of the fund's support for new immigrants' lives and development. The competition is open to all legal residents of Taiwan, regardless of nationality or age, and submissions can be made individually or in teams of up to three people.

The competition will award a total of 18 prizes, including a MacBook Pro for the top winner and iMac computers for two runners-up. Alternatively, winners may choose prizes worth at least NT$100,000 for the first place and NT$50,000 for the runners-up. Entries will be evaluated based on their alignment with the fund's mission, characteristics, and vision, as well as their creativity, practical application, and online popularity.

Online voting is scheduled from October 29 to November 5, with the winners expected to be announced in late November. The new logo is set to be unveiled in mid-December. The New Immigrants Basic Act, passed in July 2024 but not yet in effect, broadly defines new immigrants to include marriage migrants and certain foreign professionals and skilled migrants residing in Taiwan.

Originally established in 2005 as the Foreign Spouses Care and Guidance Fund and renamed in 2016, the fund's goal is to maintain a balance of NT$1 billion. It supports initiatives to help new immigrants and their families adjust to life in Taiwan, offering programs in language learning, family education, interpretation services, multicultural activities, and public participation.
