Taiwan’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka to Highlight AI Technologies

Osaka: Taiwan's pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2025 in Japan's Osaka from April to October will feature smart technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Taiwanese suppliers, according to the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

According to Focus Taiwan, the Expo is an international exhibition held every five years where nations showcase their latest innovations across a wide range of industries, including technology. Taiwan's pavilion, named "TechWorld," required NT$2 billion (US$60.21 million) to build and will present an array of smart technologies and products. These innovations have been developed by prominent companies such as Asustek Computer Inc, AUO Corp., and Hiwin Technologies Corp, as stated by TAITRA in a recent statement.

The pavilion's centerpiece will be a giant cylindrical screen displaying the island's ecological landscapes. This screen will be surrounded by 560 laptop computers, each individually held by mechanical swing arms capable of moving and projecting various images on their screens, TAITRA said. Amid the AI revolution, in which Taiwan's industries and supply chains play a crucial role, the pavilion will also feature multimedia theaters to offer visitors an interactive and immersive experience through display technologies, TAITRA added.

Visitors to the TechWorld pavilion will have the opportunity to take a virtual tour of Taiwan. With the assistance of a smart bracelet and AI algorithms, they will receive customized trip suggestions based on their reactions to the virtual journey. According to TAITRA, the TechWorld pavilion was designed by Taiwan-based architects MAYU in collaboration with Japan's Azusa Sekkei. Its design drew inspiration from Taiwan's high mountains, symbolizing the richness and diversity of its culture and ecology. The design also represents global collaboration, fostering creativity and endless possibilities.

The Taiwanese pavilion will be officially opened on April 22, a little over one week after the start of the Expo 2025, which will run until Oct. 13.
