The forthcoming Democracy Summit is long overdue. Finally the world’s democracies are jointly responding to the authoritarian threat. Earlier this year Freedom House, the non-partisan organization that tracks global democratic trends, presented data that showed the continuing decline of democracy over th last 15 years. As democracy retreats authoritarian dictatorships expand. Over 100 democracies have been invited to the virtual conference to be held on December 9th and 10th. No dictatorships have been invited.
