Taipei:Prosecutors have indicted two men in connection with an attack on a stand-up comedy show in Taipei, where paint and human feces were thrown during a performance by comedian Huang Yi-hao.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office stated that a 33-year-old man, identified by the surname Liu, recruited a 35-year-old man, surnamed Kuo, to carry out the attack in exchange for NT$50,000 (US$1,592).
The incident occurred during Huang's May 29 show at the Comedy Club, which was targeted following the viral spread of clips from a December 2025 routine where Huang mocked Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Prosecutors revealed that Liu instructed Kuo to throw the mixture at the club, damaging the venue's glass, floors, and walls.
Kuo executed the attack by throwing four bags of the mixture at the club, while Liu allegedly paid him the agreed sum in Taoyuan's Guishan District the following morning. Liu has denied all charges but faces indictments for incitement to intimidation and property damage. Kuo has been charged with intimidation and property damage.
Prosecutors have recommended prison sentences of 22 months for Liu and 20 months for Kuo. They assert that the attack aided Beijing's efforts to curtail freedom of speech in Taiwan and posed a threat to democratic values.
China's Taiwan Affairs Office claimed ignorance of the case's specifics, dismissing suggestions of cross-border repression. They described the attack as "an expression of public opinion" and reiterated that "Taiwan independence is a dead end."
In response, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council affirmed the government's resolve to combat cross-border repression and prosecute individuals collaborating with China to threaten or undermine Taiwan.
