Taipei: Schools and offices in Taipei, six other cities and counties in northern Taiwan, as well as Yilan and Hualien counties in eastern Taiwan will close Friday due to Typhoon Bavi, according to local governments.
According to Focus Taiwan, as of 9 p.m. Thursday, the governments of Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Yilan County, and Hualien County had announced school and office closures for Friday.
The Taichung City government announced that offices and schools will close from 6 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a sea warning for Bavi at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and is expected to issue a land warning early Friday if the typhoon maintains its projected path and speed.
As of 8 p.m. Thursday, Typhoon Bavi was about 860 kilometers east-southeast of Cape Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost point, moving north-northwest before turning west-northwest at 23 kph, the CWA said.
