Wet Weather and Potential Snow Forecast for Taiwan on Thursday

TAIPEI: Occasional rain is expected across Taiwan on Thursday, with significant rainfall anticipated in the mountainous regions of western Taiwan and Yilan County in the northeast. This weather pattern is influenced by a system moving north from the South China Sea, bringing increased moisture to the region, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng stated that the weather system is likely to cause sporadic showers in the aforementioned areas. Additionally, there is a possibility of snow on mountains with altitudes of 3,500 meters and above between Thursday and early Friday morning. The forecaster also mentioned the potential for rime ice or ice formations in these high-altitude regions.

The forecast indicates that drier conditions are expected to follow, as seasonal northeasterly winds begin to affect Taiwan from Friday. Western Taiwan is projected to transition to partly cloudy to sunny weather by Saturday.

Temperatures in northern Taiwan and Yilan are likely to range between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius, while central and southern Taiwan may experience temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius. A cold air mass is expected to bring a slight temperature drop of 1-2 degrees on Monday.

Forecaster Tseng also warned of possible low cloud or fog, which could reduce visibility in western Taiwan between late Saturday and early Sunday.
