Xueshan gets first snow of winter

Xueshan, Taiwan's second-highest mountain, saw snow for the first time since the start of winter Monday, as seasonal northeasterly winds brought low temperatures and moisture.

Snow accumulation of 4-5 centimeters was seen in a video taken near the Xueshan main peak at 6:30 a.m. Monday by the Indigenous Bunun Mountaineering Team, according to Chen Chun-shan (???), deputy chief of the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters.

The snow had stopped as of Monday evening, Chen said.

Also Monday, the Central Weather Bureau said the first cold wave of this winter will arrive in Taiwan Saturday, when the temperatures in Taipei are likely to plunge to 10 degrees Celsius and lower.

The cold wave is expected to weaken gradually from Dec. 19, the bureau said.
