Taipei: ASE Technology Holding Co., the world's largest provider of integrated circuit (IC) packaging and testing services, has made a decisive move toward expanding its operations in Mexico by acquiring a substantial parcel of land. This land, situated in the Axis 2 Industrial Park in Tonalá, Guadalajara, will serve as the foundation for a new production base aimed at enhancing the company's global outreach. According to Focus Taiwan, ASE Technology announced that the land acquisition, facilitated through its California-based subsidiary ISE Labs Inc., is a strategic investment that underscores the company's long-term commitment to the region. Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, is set to become a significant hub for ASE Technology as it plans to focus its investment on IC packaging and testing services. This expansion is expected to bolster the company's presence in the North American market and drive global growth. ASE Technology highlighted that Jalisco currently commands 70 percent of the semiconductor market in Mexico, attributing substantial economic value to the sector through high-paying job creation and ongoing technological innovation. The company's new facility in Jalisco is projected to generate over 500 jobs in its first year, with a focus on collaborating with local educational institutions to develop a skilled workforce of engineers and technicians. To facilitate the recruitment of specialized talent, ASE Technology is set to work closely with the Jalisco State Ministry of Economic Development, the Jalisco State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and the Jalisco State Ministry of Education. These partnerships aim to establish strong connections between ISE Labs and the region's educational and commercial entities. In addition to its efforts in Mexico, ISE Labs delivers an array of services including test engineering support, test program development, and various forms of environmental and mechanical testing. The subsidiary expanded its reach in July by inaugurating a second facilit y in Silicon Valley, which doubled its research and development space to over 150,000 square meters. This expansion is part of ISE Labs' ongoing commitment to enhancing its footprint in North America. ISE Labs, originally established in Fremont in 1983, continues to innovate and expand its capabilities, with its Fremont facility broadening its test functions. Furthermore, another ASE Technology subsidiary, Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co., opened a facility in Jalisco in July, focusing on expanding its industrial and automotive electronics business for North American clients.
