CORONAVIRUS/New round of bookings for COVID-19 vaccinations to open Tuesday

People wishing to get a first or second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from Dec. 16 to 22 will be able to make an appointment via the government 1922 platform starting Tuesday, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Monday.

Appointments can be made from 10 a.m. on Tuesday to noon on Wednesday, and around 1.2 million people are eligible, the CECC said.

People in Taiwan aged 12 and over who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 are eligible to receive a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and those aged 18 or above who got their first shot of the brand on or before Nov. 18 can receive a second dose.

Those aged 18 and over who received a shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine on or before Oct. 21, and want to get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as a second jab can also make a reservation, the CECC said.

Aside from using the 1922 platform, people can also directly book slots with hospitals offering vaccination services to get the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Medigen vaccine, the CECC said.

To date, 78.9 percent of Taiwan's population of 23.39 million has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 64.2 percent have gotten two doses.

A total of 30,288 people have received a third booster shot, which is around half of the people currently eligible, according to CECC data.
