CORONAVIRUS/Registration for latest round of Pfizer-BNT open until Wednesday

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Monday urged people aged 23-44 keen to get the Pfizer-BNT COVID-19 vaccine to register their willingness by Wednesday after they became eligible for the next vaccination round that opens next week.

Those who want to sign up for the BNT vaccine must do so by the deadline to be able to book an appointment from Oct. 18 to 20 and get a shot during the 12th round of vaccination from Oct. 22 to 31, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (???) said at a news briefing.

With the 12th round of vaccination to include those aged 23-44, all eligible age groups will have been covered in the government vaccination program after bookings were opened to those aged 45 and above and those aged 18-22 during the 11th round.

BNT doses will be administered alongside Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines during the 12th round, Chuang noted.

Meanwhile, 760,000 of 1.17 million eligible recipients had made an appointment for the 11th round of vaccination as of 1 p.m. on Monday after registration opened at 10 a.m. earlier in the day.

A total of 15 million doses of the BNT vaccine were purchased in July by Hon Hai Precision Co.'s YongLin Charity, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., and the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, with the private organizations agreeing to donate the doses to the government for distribution.

Around 5.09 million of the 15 million doses ordered have now been received following the arrival of 889,200 doses in Taiwan on Friday, the CECC said.
