Hong Kong-based budget carrier Greater Bay Airlines has submitted plans to start a Hong Kong-Taoyuan route from Dec. 1, Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said Sunday.
Although the CAA said it has not received a draft flight schedule from Greater Bay Airlines, the carrier said on its website it plans to fly one round-trip flight every day excluding Tuesday and Wednesday.
Should its operation plan be approved, Greater Bay Airlines will become the fourth Hong Kong carrier serving the route, after Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express.
Greater Bay Airlines, which started passenger services in July this year, currently flies only to Bangkok.
The airline, which has three Boeing 737-800s, said it has applied to fly 104 international routes, including the one connecting Taiwan to Hong Kong.
Spurred by the easing of Taiwan’s COVID-19 border controls, more than a dozen international airlines have said they plan to resume flights to the country by early next year, the CAA has said recently.
Air Macau, Thai Smile Air, AirAsia, and AirAsia X are scheduled to relaunch services to Taiwan in November or December, according to the CAA.
Meanwhile, more than 10 other airlines, including Jin Air, Jeju Air, T’Way Air, Royal Brunei Airlines, Batik Air, and Thai Lion Air, have said they are planning to resume services later this year or in early 2023, the CAA said.
