Lunar New Year’s Eve Traffic Volume Expected to Mirror Regular Day

Taipei: A "normal" volume of traffic is expected on Taiwan's roads on Tuesday, which is Lunar New Year's Eve, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). The MOTC's Freeway Bureau stated in its daily morning traffic report that the traffic volume on Tuesday is projected to be 92 million vehicle kilometers, aligning with the typical daily traffic volume.

According to Focus Taiwan, the bureau also reported that the total traffic volume on Monday was 95.9 million vehicle kilometers, closely resembling the usual daily traffic volume. As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the situation on Taiwan's freeways remained "generally normal."

However, the bureau cautioned that congestion might occur on six highway sections known for being prone to traffic jams. These include National Freeway No. 1 southbound between Yangmei and Hsinchu, and National Freeway No. 5 southbound between Nangang and Toucheng.

The Freeway Bureau advised motorists to check their vehicles before setting out, ensure they are well-rested, always fasten seat belts, adhere to speed limits, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
