Taipei: Temperatures in northern Taiwan, Taichung, and Yilan and Hualien counties could tumble to 10 degrees Celsius or lower in early mornings until Wednesday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecast Sunday. The CWA issued warnings of low temperatures and strong winds due to cold air currents from the north and strengthening northeasterly winds.
According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA on Sunday issued an orange "very cold" advisory for northern Taiwan, Yilan County, and Taichung, indicating that temperatures could remain at around 10 degrees or lower through Monday in those areas. A yellow "cold" weather advisory was also issued for Hualien County and the Kinmen Islands, suggesting a chance of temperatures dropping below 10 degrees for brief periods from late Sunday to Monday.
Daytime highs in Taipei and Taichung on Monday are expected to reach 13 and 14 degrees, respectively, while nighttime lows are anticipated to be around 10 degrees, or as low as 7 degrees in Yilan and Miaoli counties. The cold temperatures are expected to persist overnight every day until Wednesday.
The CWA also warned of sustained strong winds and gale force gusts until Tuesday morning along the coast of Taiwan and in open areas, including Green Island, Orchid Island, the Kinmen Islands, and Liuqiu Island. Sporadic showers are forecasted in the areas covered by the cold surge advisory and in the mountainous regions across Taiwan, with possibilities of heavy rainfall in Keelung, coastal areas in New Taipei, and mountainous areas in northern Taiwan.
