Net Zero Expo and Summit Unveils Taiwan’s Green Transition Efforts

Taipei: The Net Zero City Expo and Net Zero City Leaders Summit has commenced in Taipei, focusing on the theme of digital and green transition. The event, organized to promote Taiwan's advancements in digital and net-zero solutions, was inaugurated by Kao Shien-quey, deputy head of the National Development Council (NDC).

According to Focus Taiwan, the NDC, co-organizer of the event, has introduced a national net zero policy pavilion showcasing Taiwan's carbon reduction goals for 2030 and 2035. As urban areas are considered ideal for implementing digital and net zero solutions, 12 local governments from Taiwan participated, highlighting their achievements in low-carbon transitions using AI to enhance governance.

The event features participation from 550 businesses representing the private sector, which plays a key role in the transition towards net-zero solutions. Executive Yuan Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin, at the summit, remarked on Taiwan's industrial evolution from component manufacturing to system development, and now to problem-solving in the realm of net-zero solutions.

Taiwan is vigorously pursuing its net-zero objectives, with President Lai Ching-te establishing a climate change committee at the Presidential Office following his inauguration in May 2024. The expo and summit, held from March 18-21 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center's Hall 2, have attracted participants from over 59 countries and regions, 138 cities, and more than 2,800 international guests.
