New Taipei: The northern section of New Taipei Metro's Circular Line is expected to be completed by 2031, facilitating travel between Luzhou and Xindian districts, Mayor Hou Yu-ih announced during an inspection of the section's train depot, which is currently under construction.
According to Focus Taiwan, a briefing presented by Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit Systems, which oversees the project, indicated that construction of the Circular Line's northern section has reached 25.82 percent completion, exceeding the schedule by 6.63 percent. The northern line is planned to extend 14.93 kilometers, featuring 12 underground stations and one train depot.
The New Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems explained that the depot is being constructed underground, with plans to transform the ground level into an eco-park with green spaces. The depot will house a maintenance workshop and control center, with an excavation depth reaching up to 22.32 meters, equivalent to the height of a seven-story building.
During his visit, Mayor Hou stated that the completion of the northern section will introduce additional trains, reducing the waiting time for a train from 5 minutes to 3.5 minutes. The Circular Line's western section, which opened in 2020, currently operates between Dapinglin Station in Xindian and New Taipei Industrial Park Station in Xinzhuang District, while the eastern and southern sections are under construction.
