President Tsai offers condolences on death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

President Tsai Ing-wen (???) visited the Apostolic Nunciature in Taiwan on Friday, where she offered condolences to the Holy See over the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

According to a press statement from the Presidential Office, Tsai, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (???) and Holy See Chargé d'Affaires a.i Rev. Monsignor Stefano Mazzotti visited the Apostolic Nunciature together.

To express her respect for Benedict, Tsai wrote: "May the late Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, whose humanity has a constant place in all our hearts, rest in eternal peace; and may the longstanding friendship between Taiwan and the Vatican remain firm and enduring."

Benedict passed away on Dec. 31 2022, and former Vice President Chen Chien-jen (???) represented Taiwan at the late German-born pope's funeral on Jan. 5.
