Parliament, "Rome" urges the government to think carefully about the Vietnamese refugee issue, citing the Enforced Disappearance Act, prohibiting sending them to places where life is dangerous. He said that we don't know how many refugees we send to third countries, some secretly, some openly. He sees that it will affect investor confidence, the overall economy, and the country's future. Rangsiman Rome, MP for the Move Forward Party, talked about the case of 4 US MPs sending a letter to the Thai Prime Minister, demanding the release of Vietnamese refugees. He said that he thinks that the details need to be looked into. However, if we send them back and it leads to their lives being harmed, we have to admit that we have our own legal system regarding the Enforced Disappearance and Torture Act. If we just read the name, we will not see the connection between these matters. However, if we look at it, we will find that there is a section that prohibits us from sending people to countries that will cause their l ives to be harmed. This is something that the domestic legal system prohibits us from enforcing such laws. Therefore, if we send them back to Vietnam, the important question is whether their lives will be harmed. If that is the case, we cannot do it. Mr. Rangsiman said that regarding his request for asylum, he understood that he did not request asylum in Thailand. He wanted to go to a third country. We have to look at which third country it is. We have to accept that under our system, we have given refugees to an unknown number of third countries. Some do it secretly, some openly. Therefore, if they can be granted asylum and are safe, he thinks that there is no problem. It is something that the government has to think a lot about. If this matter is not managed well, it will greatly damage Thailand's image. It is not just about human rights, which Thailand is also applying to be a member of the United Nations Human Rights Board. It also means investment image, the image of the country. They have to think abou t whether it is appropriate to invest in a country with human rights problems. It also includes the economy, which is the future of Thailand. Source: Thai News Agency
