Taoyuan: South Korean golfer Hwang You-min emerged victorious at the 2025 Foxconn TLPGA (Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association) Players Championship in Taoyuan, capturing the title with an impressive 11-under-par 277 and securing the US$270,000 first prize.
According to Focus Taiwan, Hwang began the final day of the tournament in a four-way tie for second place, trailing leader Shin Ji-yai of South Korea by just one shot. Displaying exceptional skill, Hwang delivered a final-round 4-under 68, which propelled her to the top of the leaderboard, ultimately finishing one shot ahead of Shin.
Shin, who was participating in her first event in Taiwan in seven years, had an opportunity to force a playoff on the final hole but narrowly missed a crucial birdie putt.
The 21-year-old Hwang expressed satisfaction with her performance throughout the tournament and was thrilled to claim victory in the second edition of the annual event held at the Orient Golf and Country Club in Taoyuan's Guishan District.
Three other Korean golfers, Lee Dong-eun, Han Jin-seon, and Hong Jung-min, shared third place with a score of 8 under par.
The top finish for a Taiwanese golfer was achieved by Wu Chia-yen, who placed 18th with a score of 1 under for the tournament. Wu conveyed her satisfaction with her overall performance despite encountering challenges with chip distances due to differing green speeds compared to her practice sessions.
Additionally, the tournament's sponsor, Foxconn, had announced an increase in the total prize purse to US$1.5 million this year, elevating it to a level comparable with the United States LPGA.
