Taiwan Expels Two Chinese Influencers Advocating Unification by Force

Taipei: Taiwan's National Immigration Agency (NIA) has revoked the residence permits of two more Chinese influencers residing in Taiwan, citing their advocacy for China's unification of Taiwan by force. The influencers, identified as Xiao Wei and En Qi, have been ordered to leave Taiwan, though a specific deadline for their departure has not been disclosed.

According to Focus Taiwan, this decision follows a similar action taken by the NIA last week when it revoked the residence permit of another Chinese national, identified by her surname Liu. Liu, who advocated for China's unification of Taiwan by force through her social media account, was given a ten-day period, until March 25, to leave the island.

The NIA's actions are based on the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, which allows for the deportation of Chinese nationals considered threats to national or social stability. All three influencers are married to Taiwanese citizens, and local media reported that both Liu and Xiao Wei have three children each, though it remains unclear if En Qi has any children.

The NIA's investigation revealed that Xiao Wei had posted video content on social media promoting the unification of Taiwan by force, while En Qi shared videos emphasizing China's military strength and sovereignty over Taiwan. The agency consulted the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) and other government bodies before deciding to revoke their residence permits.

The NIA stated that barring the two Chinese influencers from reapplying for residence permits for the next five years aligns with Taiwan's legal framework and underscores its commitment to safeguarding national security and societal stability.
