Tainan: A woman was killed after a fire broke out in an industrial zone in Tainan's Yongkang District early Saturday morning, according to the city's Fire Bureau.
According to Focus Taiwan, the bureau received a report of the fire in Asia-Pacific Industrial Zone on Zhongzheng Road at 2:11 a.m. Firefighters who arrived at the scene quickly learned that a woman was trapped inside a building's second floor and immediately began putting out the blaze using water hoses.
The victim was later found dead at the site, as confirmed by the bureau. Preliminary investigations by police and firefighters identified the deceased as a 76-year-old woman.
The industrial zone consisted of several standalone buildings that are connected to each other, which allowed the fire to spread quickly. The burned area amounted to approximately 2,000 square meters, the bureau said.
A total of 115 firefighters were deployed to tackle the fire, which was eventually extinguished at 5:55 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
