Taiwan pool players put on prime performances in U.S. competitions

Two Taiwanese pool players bagged a gold and silver medal, respectively, at different pool competitions in the United States on Saturday.

In Parkersburg, West Virginia, 65-year-old Taiwanese trick shot expert Lin Chi-ming (林啟明) outplayed an American opponent to bag the gold medal at the 2022 World Pool-Billiard Association World Artistic Pool Championship.

Artistic pool is a trick shot competition, involving skills such as curve and jump shots, in which players perform 56 preset shots of varying difficulty within a limited timeframe.

Lin, known as Master Lin on the circuit, faced off against American player Tim “The Dragon” Chin for the second time Saturday.

The pair last faced each other in 2020 in the same competition, with Lin topping Chin for the event’s gold medal.

History repeated itself Saturday, with Lin securing a close 91-90 win.

Meanwhile, Chang Jung-lin (張榮麟) bagged a silver medal at the Sandcastle 9-Ball Open in Edison, New Jersey.

Nine-ball pool is a specific variation of the sport played with only nine balls instead of 15, with the nine-ball serving as the final ball to be pocketed.

Chang fell in the championship match to Singapore player Aloysius Yapp 7-6 to win the silver medal.

Chang had previously lost to Yapp 7-5 in a previous round on Friday, but rebounded to make the final.
