Bangkok, The Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development revealed that he has ordered the district and provincial livestock offices nationwide to urgently provide assistance to farmers who raise animals immediately after flooding occurs, in accordance with the order of the Minister of Agriculture. Most recently, he helped move pigs and broiler chickens from farmers in Trat Province whose farms were flooded due to continuous heavy rain, which has helped reduce the damage to farmers. Veterinarian Somchuan Rattanamangkhalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, said that due to the heavy rain in many areas, especially the Eastern region where heavy rain continued, Colonel Thammanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, ordered the Department of Livestock Development to urgently help farmers raising animals to alleviate the damage that may occur. The latest report from the Trat Provincial Livestock Office, which collaborated with Trat provincial administra tion officials, Trat Mueang District, Trat Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, 19th Infantry Division, Chanthaburi-Trat Marine Corps Unit, and other agencies, helped move pigs raised at Sakarin Farm, Village No. 2, Huai Raeng Subdistrict, Mueang Trat District, Trat Province. The heavy rain caused flooding on the farm, so they had to move 1,200 piglets to another farm in a higher area. After checking the move, it was found that 8 pigs had died. The immediate assistance helped reduce the damage to the farmers. In addition, the Trat Livestock Office has collaborated with several agencies to help farmers raising broiler chickens at Kesarin Farm in Village No. 2, Bo Ploi Subdistrict, Bo Rai District, Trat Province. This farm raises 37,000 chickens. The floodwaters rose rapidly. Due to the assistance of the officials, some of the chickens were moved to the slaughterhouse, totaling 8,828 chickens, of which 28,172 died. According to the weather forecast from the Meteorological Department, there will be continuous rain throughout Thailand, especially in the North, upper Northeast, Central, East, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the South. Some areas will experience heavy rain on the monsoon side and near the monsoon trough that passes through the North and upper Northeast, along with the southwest monsoon that is moderate to quite strong. Therefore, it is necessary to watch out for heavy rain and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff. The Department of Livestock Development has therefore ordered livestock offices nationwide to monitor the water situation and prepare to provide assistance to farmers in a timely manner.
