Those wishing to make in-kind donations to help survivors of a magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Turkey early Monday can do so via a Taipei branch office Tzu Chi Foundation, the country's representative office in Taipei said Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, the Turkish Trade Office in Taipei said it had teamed up with the Tzu Chi Foundation to begin receiving donations of brand new winter clothing for both adults and children, such as overcoats, pants, sweaters, gloves, scarfs, mufflers, socks, underwear, beret/beanie hats, boots and raincoats from 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Other necessities, including beds, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, mattresses, blankets, thermoses, flashlights, diapers, sanitary pads, and cleaning and hygiene items are also very welcome, it added.
Those who wish to make donations need to deliver the supplies, either in person or by post, to the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation liaison office in Taipei's Neihu District at No. 168 of section 5 of Chenggong Road.
Starting Friday, in-person donations are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day until Feb. 15, it added.
One can call Mr. Wang at (02)2793-8563 during the above-mentioned period of time if they have further questions concerning the donation.
Earlier Wednesday, Muhammed Berdibek, representative of the Turkish Trade Office in Taipei, said since his office issued a call for people in Taiwan to make in-kind donations to help survivors of the deadly quake on late Tuesday, it had received over 2,800 messages and phone calls as of noon Wednesday.
"I am surprised and really grateful to Taiwanese people for their goodwill and kindness," he said.
