Yunlin County: A Vietnamese national working at a food processing company's factory in Yunlin County was injured Monday after his right hand was caught in a meat grinder. Two fire trucks and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident, which occurred at around 1 p.m., as confirmed by the Yunlin County Fire Department in a statement.
According to Focus Taiwan, the worker sustained an injury to his right palm that was not life-threatening. However, medical personnel indicated that they had to forcibly dismantle the grinder to free the worker's hand. Once freed, the worker was transported to a hospital to receive further treatment. Details regarding the extent of the injury were not disclosed.
The owner of the food company informed CNA by telephone that the mishap occurred when the worker's glove was caught in the machine. The company plans to enhance employee education to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the Yunlin County Labor Affairs Department has dispatched personnel to inspect the factory to determine if any safety measures need improvement.
The Ministry of Labor's Central Occupational Safety and Health Center is conducting an investigation to ascertain whether there was any negligence on the part of the company that contributed to the accident.
