A Taiwan-based drone manufacturer was tight-lipped Friday after a media report that said that Taiwan's government had donated 800 drones made by the company to Ukraine to help its military fight against Russia.
The Polish news outlet WP tech on Aug. 18 reported that Taiwan had donated 800 Revolver 860 drones manufactured by DroneVision to Ukraine with the help of Poland, which took delivery of the drones before sending them to Ukraine.
The report attributed the provision of drones to the Taiwan government, noting that President Tsai Ing-wen (???) has been supportive of Ukraine in its efforts to fight off Russian invaders and has donated one month's salary to a relief fund for the country.
The alleged donation came in the absence of official diplomatic ties between Taiwan and Ukraine, the report said.
When asked to comment on the report, DroneVision said only that its clients were mostly foreign governments, and that a majority of its revenues came from exports.
However, it could not comment on its business with clients, with whom it has signed non-disclosure agreements, the company said.
Since its founding about seven years ago, it has independently researched and developed drones and has a simple financial structure in which all of its shareholders are Taiwanese, it said, adding that it had never collaborated with local or foreign government agencies or state-run research facilities in developing drones.
Information on DroneVision's website shows that the Revolver 860 is a drone bomber that employs a drum-magazine system that can carry up to eight 60mm mortars and has a maximum flight endurance of 40 minutes.
It can also be modified to be outfitted with 81mm or 120mm mortars, according to the company.
